A story about Michael Jackson, Horses and John Fry
One of my co-workers is named Michael Jackson, we call him Mike, but I still always get a kick out of the fact that he shares a name with the King of Pop. I realize that he is not amused by this at all, especially this past summer when Jackson kicked and he got a slew of text messages from his friends asking him if he was alright, but I found it highly entertaining. Mike is also in a band called Jamie Randolph and the Darkhorse, a band that I was a fan of before he joined and actually first wrote about for the Commercial Appeal back in 2006.
Anyway, Mike works for Ardent Records and we share an office at Ardent Studios. Due to the nature of things here at the studio, it was not much of a surprise when several horse magazines started magically appearing in Mike’s mailbox. When the first one arrived addressed to him, he thought it was a mistake - but when the third arrived it seemed clear that someone had jokingly signed him up for subscriptions to Horse Illustrated, Horse & Rider and Horse.
This is all funny enough on it’s own, however, the whole situation was made funnier when Mike offered one of the magazines to our boss and owner of Ardent, John Fry. He actually owns a couple of horses, so it made sense to pass the magazines on to him. When he was offered Horse Illustrated he quipped:
“Horse Illustrated? I wonder when the swimsuit issue’s coming out.”
OK, maybe you just need to know Fry to think this is funny - but it cracks me up.
